Pro-Life Tribe Heroes (Helen and Rosemary)

While we are on the subject of senior citizens demonstrating their commitment to the sanctity of human life, let me tell you about two more pro-life heroes: Helen and Rosemary.

Rosemary has gone on to receive her reward but, while on earth, she showed love and compassion for babies by making over 5,000 pairs of booties to give to clients of crisis pregnancy centers. We won't know this side of heaven how many women chose life because of Rosemary--a total stranger who showed love for the babies they might have aborted.

At 91 years of age, Helen lives in a retirement center and maintains an active life. When she's not walking or participating in her daily exercise class, she's at her sewing machine crafting hundreds of baby blankets from material donated by women in her church. When she tires of that, she crochets beautiful baby blankets--all to give to clients of crisis pregnancy centers.

When a woman is in a state of indecision about her pregnancy, a lovely handmade item crafted just for her and her baby, can sometimes help her to see hope beyond her fears.

Tell us about a pro-life hero you know.

  1. I have seen over and over again what a difference these sacrifices of love can make. One client was very abortion minded at the start of her ultrasound. Following her ultrasound I gave her a sweet baby quilt that my 90 year old friend, Nila had made. My client left the center that day still unsure as to what decision she would make. Several months later she returned to the center to introduce me to her baby boy.
"It was the blanket that made up my mind. I held it for weeks while I slept, crying and so scared."

  2. Once again we see the beauty of God working in the heart (and through the fingers) of the elderly to bless future generations and to share a love for life. Thank you for sharing this, Gayle.

  3. I saw first-hand the love of one of these women. Rosemary was my grandmother. I remember delivering booties to a PRC and being amazed at how fast her booties were given out. She truly loved what she did. She made booties for all of her great-grandchildren (at her service, all 9 of her grandchildren and all 18 of her great-grandchildren were there to honor her). Even the simplest of deeds can have a huge impact.

  4. Heidi, Thanks for writing. We who knew Rosemary loved her for her selfless ministry to the women and babies at PRC. She, as well as your mother, worked faithfully for the cause of life. I, too, was at your Grandmother's service and it was obvious she was loved by the packed church.
